Handmade in a sweltering little town near the equator in Brazil, RDB products begin their lives as reclaimed canvas tarps that used to stretch across the beds of cross-country cargo trucks hauling open freight, from deep in the Amazon out to the bustling Brazilian coast. The Real Deal Brazil uses recycled tarps for its products in an effort to cut down on the wasting of the world’s resources – and also because those weathered old tarps look very, very cool!
The heavy canvas fabric has slogged through sudden deluges of blinding rain, been baked and broiled in scalding heat, whipped by harsh salt winds, assaulted by road debris and sometimes even printed upon in Portuguese with thick, waterproof black ink.
Tarp scraps don't go to waste, either; they're stitched as patches onto other Real Deal Brazil products.
The Real Deal Brazil recycled-tarp hat’s bendy brim hides its own colorful history. The heavy wire used by the brand's Brazilian hat-crafters was pulled from trash-bound truck tires worn treadless from countless days barreling down Brazilian byways often barely fit for driving, often with whole sections of road crumbled away.
